UCA make for memorable Vintage
In another example of our strong business & community engagement emphasis at UCA, staff and students from the School of Fashion & Management made their impact at the annual Vintage at Goodwood festival in 2010.
Across three days in August 2010, approximately six staff and 50 students supported the festival organisers, designers Gerardine Hemingway MBE & Wayne Hemingway MBE and Lord March in hosting 10,000 visitors to the Vintage at Goodwood festival of music, fashion, film, art & design, celebrating and showcasing five decades of British cool.
The UCA team photographed all 10,000 visitors on their arrival on the red carpet, posting the photos on a large photo-wall at the entrance to the festival (pictured).
On the main 'high street' at the festival, Senior Lecturer, John MacLachlan (with Valentina Elizabeth and Mandy Fairbrother) ran a series of vintage tailoring masterclasses in the evenings (pictured) , demonstrating how key shapes from the 40's 50's and 60's would be manufactured. From initial pattern cutting, pattern presentation, fabric cutting and sewing, a shirtwaister dress, pleated trousers and a 60's shift dress were constructed throughout the festival. Each garment was made for members of the public to try on and enjoy.
In the nearby Army camp students invited guests to take part in a Vintage Photo Shoot which including styling and fashion advice. Visitors could either bring their own clothes or use a selection from the UCA fashion archive, covering the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and present day. Every customer at the shoot were given a free print and were given the option of having the photograph retouched to reflect the photographic style of the period and posted directly home.
Throughout the event, UCA students photographed visitors and a selection of the photos are available on the official Vintage at Goodwood gallery at http://www.vintageatgoodwood.com/gallery/uca.aspx and on the UCA Vintage at Goodwood Photo Wall account on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/50943426@N05/collections/72157624848770454/
